LAB 1: CERTIFICATE IN FILM PRODUCTION
Embark on a cinematic journey with our introductory program that provides comprehensive training and hands-on learning in the essential elements of filmmaking. From screenwriting, producing, and directing to cinematography, editing, pre-and-post production, composing, and marketing - this immersive course covers it all. Perfect for beginners or those with minimal experience, our program utilizes film as an engaging means to impart vital life skills, encompassing areas such as reading, writing, math, science, storytelling, business acumen, communication, leadership, and artistry.
With the individualized mentorship of seasoned professional artists, students will have the opportunity to cultivate their unique creative visions. Our program guides participants through the exciting process of writing and directing a short film, conceptualizing future projects, and crafting an outline or treatment for a feature-length film of their own design. Students will not only have the chance to create their own short film but also to make their mark within the film industry. This short film will act as a compelling introduction to you and your work, serving as a dynamic calling card to the cinematic world.

Upon successful completion of our program, Laurentian University offers an exciting path forward. They will recognize a maximum of 60 credits for students who have completed the equivalent at WFI, including the following program combinations:
Lab 1 Film Production - Equivalent to 1 Academic Year (30 Credits)
- **ARTS 9100**: 6 credits
- **ARTS 9200**: 15 credits
- **ENGL 3596**: Core Seminar, Indigenous Filmmaking I - 3 credits*
- **ENGL 3596**: Core Seminar, Indigenous Filmmaking II - 3 credits*
- **ENGL 3411**: Canadian Indigenous Poetics - 3 credits*

Weengushk Film Institute is located just outside of M'Chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island. The island is the largest freshwater lake island in the world, surrounded by Lake Huron, Georgian Bay and the North Channel. The natural beauty of the island and the cultural history, make WFI's location a prime spot for media production.

​Manitoulin Island is approximately two-hours southeast of Sudbury - a prime location for the film industry in Northern Ontario. With ties to the Northern Film Industry, WFI students have successfully transitioned into industry professionals.
